BOLTON UKIP Candidate Ryan Wood has told Politicalite that he is ‘confident’ of a vote win in next months local election.
A week after being attacked by a local Tory-supporting group who threatened to ‘destroy’ his future political career, simply for choosing to stand in an election, Wood, 19 was upbeat as he delivered campaign leaflets in Bolton’s Breightmet Ward, and local voters seemed to warm to the young candidate who’s rising through the ranks.
Local lad Ryan is one of many young faces rejuvenating UKIP as the young working-classes shun the Conservatives and Labour, with lots of anger over Brexit and a crackdown on Free Speech by the Tory Government.
One local man told us: “I’m definitely not voting for the Tories or Labour, they’ve totally sold us out”
“You vote, and then they do the complete opposite.” That was a familiar message on the doorsteps, people are very angry that Brexit has been delayed.
Another resident said they didn’t usually accept political leaflets – but made an exception for UKIP, it seems the blame is being directed at the Tories and Labour, the Purple party hasn’t ‘sold out’ on Brexit.
Breightmet is ‘Brexit Britain’ through and through, an area that’s been failed by both local government under Labour, and the Tories nationally.
The area has a mix of social and private housing, but both camps seem to be fed up with the Tories complete Brexit Betrayal.
Even as Ryan stopped for a pint on his leaflet drop, people came over to pick up a leaflet and have a little chat, UKIP and Ryan seem to have lots of support.
It’s not just about Brexit though, Ryan is focusing on key local issues promising to lower local council tax, provide more local housing for locals, more Police on the streets and promises to push for the return of weekly Bin collections.
