Speaking to the annual Conference of UKIP’s Youth Wing, Young Independence, UKIP Leader Gerard Batten has announced he will submit a motion to its National Executive Committee calling for a ballot of all UKIP members on allowing Tommy Robinson to join in the “near future”.
Batten told the assembled crowd, to loud applause, that Tommy has, in speaking out over the grooming gangs issue, done a “brave and courageous” thing.
Although he is not an “unqualified” supporter of Tommy’s and he wants UKIPs perscription against ex members of the EDL and BNP to remain in place he feels an exception should be made in the case of Tommy Robinson.
However, as he is “not a dictator” he wants the NEC to allow all UKIP members to have the final say. His comments follow a attempt to have the matter discussed at UKIPs annual Conference which was rebutted due to procedural issues.
