Theresa May’s glee at the formation of The Independent Group by dissident Labour MPs is at end as three Tory MPs have joined their ranks bringing the Group up to 11 MPs and on a par with the Liberal Democrats.
Anna Soubry, Sarah Woolaston and Hedi Alexander are all Remoaners. Soubry in particular is the bete noir of the Brexit movement and has been highly critical of both the government and the ERG.
In their resignation letter they accused Theresa May of being in the grip of the ERG and DUP:
The defecting Tory three accuse government of being “firmly in the grip of the ERG and DUP” and say the final straw has been @theresa_may’s “disastrous handling of Brexit”.

The Independent Group is noticeably anti-Brexit in its character and this will cement its reputation as a wrecking ball deployed against Brexit.
UKIP branded the Group the home of democracy deniers:
“Honour bound to put constituents first…”
Anna, your constituents voted to leave.
It’s official. This grouping is the official home of democracy deniers. https://t.co/EqhSwqlzXg
