“DON’T INSULT AMERICA” Rees-Mogg BLASTS Anti-Trump Protesters

DONALD TRUMP’S state visit to the UK has aroused explosive controversy but Jacob Rees-Mogg insisted that to protest the US President’s trip is to disrespect the “American people” in the midst of a furious confrontation with Labour MP Stephen Doughty.

Mr Doughty, who furiously derided the state visit, told Sky News the Royal Family “have more class in their little finger than Donald Trump will have in a lifetime. And obviously they’re doing their duty today and being put in a very awkward position by the Prime Minister. But let’s be frank – this is a racist, sexist person who has supported the far-right.

But Tory MP Jacob Rees-Mogg strongly disagreed, replying curtly: “I think we should welcome our allies.

Trump on British soil today.

We should respect our allies and we shouldn’t indulge in student politics.

We should be courteous to our visitors and remember we aren’t American citizens.

The American people voted for it and we should have respect for the American people.”

Huge protests have already swamped central London as Mr Trump’s first day of the state visit heads towards its close

Trumper and supporter MP Rees-Mogg.

Speaking at an event in central London, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick said that the force would be “firm” with protesters who break the law (leaving it open to interpretation).

She said: “We take our role really seriously, on the one hand to keep safe the visiting head of state and their entourage and everybody connected with it, and of course our own royal family, and on the other hand in a liberal democracy like ours to ensure that if people wish to protest lawfully they can do so without crime, and do so safely.

“We will be pretty firm if protesters are intending to try to protest in a way which is unlawful, and very, very firm if anybody wants to do anything which might in any way endanger security.”
