PROMINENT Brexiteer and former Leader of the House Andrea Leadsom has announced she is backing Boris Johnson for the Tory leadership.
Leadsom, a popular Tory who pulled out of the race last week, made her endorsement on LBC Radio this morning.
Ms Leadsom’s announcement is a blow to Dominic Raab, who has failed to position himself as a key Brexiteer leadership candidate.
Ms Leadsom said of Mr Johnson: “He’s an election winner” who is “very clear we have to leave the EU in all circumstances on 31 October.”
Matt Hancock and Esther McVey have also both backed Boris, who remains the clear frontrunner and who is now almost definitely on his way to number 10.
It comes as weak and wobbly Rory Stewart said that he is the “Marmite candidate” while preparing for the second round of Tory leadership votes.
Today as many as three candidates are expected to drop out, with Stewart, Dominic Raab and Sajid Javid now waiting to see who will be left to take part in the TV debate tonight.
