The effective collapse of the Daily Express into being a lefty mouthpiece was sealed with the transfer of ownership to the Evil Empire otherwise known as Trinity Mirror.
Now it looks like the Mail is set to follow suit. Amid speculation that Brexiteer staff at the paper are scared to speak out, the new editor, Geordie Greig, who will take the reins from Paul Darce in early September has told staff in remarks reported in The Guardian that the paper will be focusing on pushing for the “least damaging form of Brexit.”
This is usually taken as being Remoaner code for a soft Brexit and employs the same sort of language typically used by leading Remoaners. Greig is being promoted from his former position as editor of the Mail On Sunday. He has already faced a broadside from the departing Darce who wrote in the Spectator: “Support for Brexit is in the DNA of both the Daily Mail and, more pertinently, its readers. Any move to reverse this would be editorial and commercial suicide.”
Darce will be moving upstairs to be based close to the papers proprietor Lord Rothermere and his influence will still loom large. However, Greig is coming prepared for a fight bringing over a small group of loyalists to help him to assert his grip on a paper where almost everybody owes their career to Dacre. Gerard Greaves and Tobyn Andreae, who have previously worked on the Mail on Sunday, will be his deputies, while the City editor, Ruth Sunderland, is also being brought over The Mail on Sunday’s political editor, Simon Walters, will become Greig’s chief political commentator and adviser.
The capitulation of the Mail reinforces the fakestreams unreliability as a source of support for Brexit with the only real source of staunch support for Brexit being the alternative media like Politicalite.
