Speculation is swirling that a trade deal could still be done with the EU in a matter of days. Reportedly, the bone of contention is over EU access to British fishing waters after 31 st January.
Nigel Farage said that this should be the ‘deal-breaker’ as he demands Prime Minister Boris Johnson take a hardline with the EU:
This should be the deal breaker. After years of being allowed to take advantage of our fish stocks, Barnier now threatens us. https://t.co/xlGdQILmdh

Farage thinks that the endless round of phone calls between Johnson and EU President Ursula von der Leyen is clearly pointless. He sent a pointed tweet directed at Johnson saying that people voted for Brexit, “not another EU Treaty.”
The talks are set to continue into the weekend, for his part Johnson said that there was a “gap that needed to be bridged” while Chief Negotiator for the EU, Michael Barnier said that the negotiations were reaching a “moment of truth”. Despite a European Commission spokesperson saying there is “no official deadline for finishing”, it is widely expected the EU will call time on negotiations if there is no text by Sunday.
