Reports are swirling that as she stares at another devastating Parliamentary defeat tomorrow evening Theresa May has lost the support of the majority of her Cabinet. It seems even her friends and some would say her masters in Brussels are deserting the Prime Minister.
She made a secret phone-call to European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on Sunday night but was rebuffed and a planned trip to Brussels, which was supposed to seal a revised deal has been cancelled.
Discussions focused on a text that would help Attorney General Geoffrey Cox reverse his legal advice that the backstop could leave Britain “indefinitely” trapped in a customs union and potentially solve the Parliamentary impasse.
Representatives of the EU’s 27 member states have been summoned to a secret meeting to discuss the state of the negotiations.
May now be forced into a humiliating climb down and to change the vote tomorrow from a “Meaningful” to “Provisional” one though it is unclear how that will be received by MP’s anxious to put their stamp on the Brexit negotiations.
UPDATE: May has now left for Strasbourg in a ‘last-ditch’ attempt to save her deal.
