President Trump has arrived in France for a weekend of Remembrance events. However, he has reacted furiously to a suggestion by French President Emmanuel Macron that there should be a single European Army.
Trump branded the comments “insulting”:
President Macron of France has just suggested that Europe build its own military in order to protect itself from the U.S., China and Russia. Very insulting, but perhaps Europe should first pay its fair share of NATO, which the U.S. subsidizes greatly!

The US is one of the “threats” that Macron said the EU Army needed to be created to deal with. He argued that Europe is a “victim” and that it should “build a real security dialogue with Russia.” Despite formally opposing an EU Army, Theresa May has hog-tied Britain into PESCO and a spiders web of ‘cooperative’ structures which would presumably be the foundation of a common Army.
