PRO-REMAINER Tory MPs have been rattled by a surge in new members joining the party following Leave.EU’s campaign urging Brexiteers to sign up.
The Times front page lays out how Remainers are fearful of an ‘infiltration’ – even though they stood on a pro-Brexit manifesto themselves.
Westmonster reported that A Tory MP told The Times that their local membership had grown from 170 to 221 in a few months, with other MPs also reporting an increase. The increase has seemingly been noticeable in seats with MPs who are not supportive of a full, clean Brexit as is the case with Dominic Grieve and Nicky Morgan.
High-profile Tory Remainer Anna Soubry has complained: “We are on a membership drive at the same time as the likes of Banks are urging members of UKIP and other hard Brexiteers to join our party to topple the leader and destroy government policy.
“I’ve called on the Party Chairman to end the membership drive until we can be confident we are not being infiltrated by people who are not Conservatives.”
How bizarre that Conservative MPs would complain about new members joining the party. Brexiteers who care about the future of Britain recognise that the future of the country and of Brexit is likely to be fought inside the Tory Party come the next leadership election.
The fact that Remainers are rattled shows that the Leave.EU campaign is having a big impact.
