As expected, she announced that the vote on the Withdrawal Agreement will be deferred. However, she faced open mockery as the House creased up in laughter several times during her statement. The DUP’s leader, Arlene Foster, has made it clear to the Prime Minister that only the entire removal of the Irish Backstop would be acceptable while all Mrs May could promise was ‘reassurances’ and even those seem to be out of the question for the European Union.
Further humiliation potentially awaits as the Speaker appears to suggest that MPs should hold a vote on whether the vote on the Withdrawal Agreement can be deferred.
