JOHN McDONNELL appeared on The Andrew Marr show on Sunday and the Labour shadow chancellor was ASKED if he wanted to hear a clip of comments he made about Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Secretary Esther McVey.
McDonnell replied: “You don’t need to, I know exactly what was on it.”
In his comment, he quoted a constituent who had said that Ms McVey should be lynched, a recording of which was later released.
The shadow chancellor also refused to apologise and “I said then I did not support what was happening, of course, I didn’t support that.”
“It is for those people who made that statement if they wish to make that apology.”
Twitter users were quick to call out the easy interview by Marr and The Andrew Marr Show’s editor, Rob Burley even admitted he gave McDonnell editorial control.
The editor was accused of letting McDonnell of the hook by Twitter user @proud_teamtory.
And another user said:
The BBC’s Sunday Politics Twitter account later posted the audio recording on it’s Twitter feed.
