PARLIAMENT could be forced to close for “the longest recess ever” as Britain battles the Coronavirus epidemic that is set to sweep the country.
Lindsay Hoyle and the Governments Chief Medical Officer held emergency talks last night and discussed the possibility of parliament closing to stop the spread of the deadly disease.
Insiders fear that the House of Commons 650 MPs could become ‘superspreaders’.
Hoyle is said to be worried about 3,000 staff that work in the building and as 650 MPs travel up and down the country meeting constituents and could potentially spread the disease.
There are also worries because the Palace of Westminster is a major tourist attraction.
The prime minister’s spokesperson said: “It’s not for me to speak for parliament but I’m sure parliament will itself be led by the advice of the experts in terms of taking the steps it needs in order to protect the people that work there.”
A spokesperson for parliament said: “We are monitoring the situation closely and continue to work with the Department for Health and Public Health England.
“We have taken a range of precautionary measures including placing information posters across the parliamentary estate encouraging thorough handwashing.”
“We have been reassured by Public Health England that the steps we are taking to reduce the risk of transmission are proportionate and reasonable.”
KEEP THEM LOCKED UP & TURN ON THE CAMERAS!
ONE Twitter user came up with a solution to stop the 650 right-honorbale superspreaders.
“It would be better for the MPs to be kept quarantined in the Palace of Westminster for a few months instead.” said ex-Medical Student Dave Jones.
“Keep the cameras and microphones on at all times, and keep them in a permanent debate until they all go mad. It would be like Black Mirror meets Big Brother.”
