Police Officers told a member of the public to “grow up” after they were caught appearing to flout tough Covid restrictions. A viral video shows the Officers sat down, without masks, sharing a meal and with a fairly generous approach to social distancing.
At the time the footage was taken, 24th December, Tier 4 restrictions meant you could not meet more than one other person outside your household bubble and only then in an outside public space, it is unclear whether the officers were outside or inside.

Meanwhile, there has been a growing outcry about the approach taken by some police forces to enforce the national lockdown. Tory MP Andrew Bridgen expressed “concern” following the fining of one of his constituents, Jessica Allen, was fined for taking a socially distanced walk with a friend. Allen was told she was fined £200 because it was “classed as a picnic”, somewhat ironically given the conduct of the officers above. Allen said:
“I genuinely thought someone had been murdered; the place is normally so quiet.
“The next thing, my car is surrounded. I got out of my car thinking ‘There’s no way they’re coming to speak to us’. Straight away they start questioning us.
“I said we had come in separate cars, even parked two spaces away and even brought our own drinks with us. He said ‘You can’t do that as it’s classed as a picnic’.”
Seems like a classic case of one rule for one, one for another.
