CORONAVIRUS lockdown is something that we are all going to be affected by, and which many of us have already been affected by. But the ways in which we are being affected are hugely various and they cover many different aspects of our lives.
For some people, there is loss of work and income, and for others there is going to be the extremely unfortunate situation of losing someone close to them, or even themselves becoming harmed from this virus. There are so many ways it can play out in each of our lives that we need to be prepared for all circumstances. Let’s look at four of the things that will likely affect your experience of the pandemic in some way or another.
Your Location
Of course, the whole world is reeling from this pandemic, but different countries are going to have wildly different experiences of the disease and how it affects people’s lives. One example can be seen in the way that different countries approach the issue of economic aid to its citizens. Whereas in the US there is likely to be a stimulus package for senior citizens, in the UK there is so far no such specific package that the elderly can claim, as most things of that nature will simply come under Universal Credit. Location will also affect the likelihood of someone catching the virus, as some countries just have higher rates than others.
Your Age
One of the main obvious differences is between ages. In particular, it is notable that older people are considerably more likely to have severe symptoms of the disease, and much more likely to ultimately die of it. However, that doesn’t mean that younger people can’t or won’t die from coronavirus – indeed, a few younger people in their twenties and thirties already have, and one teenager that we know about. But as a rule, the elderly are going to suffer more with the virus itself, so this too is something to bear in mind when you are considering how you are likely to be affected by the pandemic.
Your Income
Many people are struggling with their income as a result of this pandemic, and it is something that you are going to want to think about in itself too. For one thing, those with higher incomes are more likely to be able to afford the best care out there, whereas those are not and will therefore be more likely to suffer more from the disease. It’s also true that income seems directly related to how badly a person is going to find the lockdown experience, with those earning less more likely to live in cramped conditions – and also therefore more likely to get the virus itself. So your income level will absolutely make a huge difference to your experience in this way too, and it is something to be aware of.
Whatever your situation is, we are all affected in our own way, and it is time to work together as best as we can.
