Fiona Onasanya, Peterborough’s wayward MP, who is currently wearing an electronic tag to Westminster has launched a truly desperate bid to save her place on the green benches as an Independent MP.
She has made a video continuing to protest her innocence as she faces a recall petition which is launched tomorrow. In the video, she asks the Listerine what they would do if they knew they were innocent. Flying in the face of two court rulings (her original conviction and the quashing of her appeal) she insists “I have not perverted the course of justice. I have not colluded with my brother.”
Considering she was a solicitor, Ms Onasanya shows little grasp of the need to present concrete evidence to justify her claim that she is innocent. In fact, all she offers in her defence is the proposition that she would not risk “everything” to avoid a speeding fine.
Voters in Peterborough have six weeks, starting tomorrow to sign a petition to demand she be recalled. You can find the details of when and where you can do this here.
