YORKSHIRE Tea refused to go broke by going woke over the weekend as Twitteraiti lefties bombarded the company with angry tweets after the firms famous tea was featured in a social media post by Tory Chancellor Rishi Sunak.
So in true cancel culture fashion, millions of the deranged Remoaners still angry Britain left the EU decided to bombard the Harrogate-based firm with boycott calls and abuse on Twitter, but the company stood firm.
The firm said: “We’ve spent the last three days answering furious accusations and boycott calls. For some, our tea just being drunk by someone they don’t like means it’s forever tainted, and they’ve made sure we know it.”
The firm added that politicians sometimes share their products and argued that MPs from both sides had done that.
“(Jeremy Corbyn did it in 2017)” said the company. “We weren’t asked or involved – and we said so the same day. Lots of people got angry with us all the same.”
“It’s been pretty shocking to see the determination some have had to drag us into a political mudfight. But it’s been lovely to see others speak up for us – we’re so grateful to everyone who’s done that in a civil way (and gutted to see some use it as a reason for more nastiness).”
“Speaking directly now, as the person who’s been answering these tweets, I know it could have been much worse. It’s easier to be on the receiving end of this as a brand than as an individual. There’s more emotional distance and I’ve had a team to support me when it got a bit much.”
“For anyone about to vent their rage online, even to a company – please remember there’s a human on the other end of it, and try to be kind.”
The firm had millions respond to them backing their decision not to be dragged in to the drama.
Sandra said: “I converted to your tea a few years ago and love it. Ignore the haters. You’re just not their cup of tea.”
Diana said: “Well said you! I know it’s easy to say it, but, you must ignore these bigots. We cannot allow people to be denied a voice. The public are fed up of being patronised & denigrated by those with different views.”
Lee said: “I love your tea. I feel this whole debacle has been a cunning and sinister ploy executed with skill and precision by the PG tips monkeys. I never did trust those guys.”
To which the company responded: “Those dastardly chimps!”
