AMERICAN HEARTBEAT: Where the Crawdads Sing – a non-woke tale of human nature

WHERE the Crawdads Sing is a 2022 American mystery drama film based on the 2018 novel of the same name by Delia Owens and is a fantastic movie that tells the story of the American heartbeat Dream.

The movie leaves the viewer with the feeling that It doesn’t matter where you live or come from or what adversaries one faces, one can always reach their full potential. It’s the story of poverty, abuse and working-class discrimination and it doesn’t have a colour or gender. This is raw truth. It’s the kind of back story that would’ve appeared on Jerry Springer in the 1990s – but this time, raw storytelling not for tabloid entertainment.

Directed by Olivia Newman, the all-American cast shines with a stellar story of a neglected child who is abandoned in the swamp and must fend for herself but she has an amazing talent – the ability to understand nature like no other.

It stars relatively unknown stars Daisy Edgar-Jones, Taylor John Smith and Harris Dickinson in lead roles, the movie follows the story of Kya, a young girl who is abandoned by her family and left alone to fend for herself in the marshlands of North Carolina.

Kya is a fierce survivor and teaches herself to read and write. She learns about the natural world around her, seeking solace in its beauty and serenity. Her world is disrupted when a young man from the town, Tate, takes an interest in her and teaches her about the world beyond the marshes. But their love story is cut short when Tate goes to college and Kya becomes the prime suspect in a murder case.

The film has received mixed reviews from mainstream critics, with some praising its stunning visuals and strong performances while others criticised its slow pacing and lack of depth – but Politicalite rates it five stars – we think the people will love it.

It tackles major social issues that are still relevant today. And whilst set in the south during the 1950s and 60s, the movie doesn’t lecture the viewer with woke nonsense or critical race theory, showing the young audience that whilst America back then had issues with racism and segregation – for most small towns, people were able to live side by side and help one another.

Where the Crawdads Sing beautifully captures the essence of human nature and the individual’s relationship with their environment. The film provides an intense study of loneliness and isolation, and how it affects individuals in unexpected ways. It also delves into the complicated nature of love, and the heartbreaking nature of loss.

Furthermore, the film impressively captures the moody atmosphere and hauntingly beautiful scenery of the marshlands. The camera work is exquisite, and the use of music ensures the audience becomes fully immersed in the story’s world.

The standout performances of the lead actors are also a notable highlight. Daisy Edgar-Jones delivers a powerful and nuanced performance as Kya, seamlessly transitioning from a curious young girl to a fierce woman determined to survive. Taylor John Smith is equally impressive as Tate, Kya’s first love, and Harris Dickinson adds depth to his character’s complexity as the murder suspect.

Overall, Where the Crawdads Sing may not be for everyone, but it is a worthwhile adaptation of the beloved novel. It captures the story’s main themes and delivers a visually stunning and emotive experience. It is a film that will make you think and feel long after the credits roll.

In conclusion, Where the Crawdads Sing movie adaptation stays true to the essence of the book, providing a beautiful and emotive experience to both fans of the novel and we encourage readers to take a closer look.

Where The Crawdads Sing is available to stream now on Sky Cinema and NOW TV in the UK.
