Italy’s Lega Party, the Party led by Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, have added an astounding 27% to their poll rating in the latest poll for next years European Elections.

The gains have come mostly at the expense of left-wing social democrats who have lost 24% in the poll. The Lega’s coalition partners in government, the 5* Movement have added 5% to their total while Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia Party, a center-right conservative party have lost 10%.

Salvini’s strong stand on immigration issues and willingness to stand up to Brussels which is trying to quash the Italian Budget has clearly won himself and the Lega widespread recognition and applause. He was recently recognised by another poll as the most powerful figure in the Italian government. If Salvini and the Lega storm the Euro Elections as this polls suggests they will then that will certainly provide Brussels with a major headache but be an inspiration to people across Europe.
