MORE than 15,000 migrants have arrived in the UK so far this year after crossing the English Channel, figures show.
Since the start of 2022, 15,107 people have reached the UK after navigating busy shipping lanes from France in small boats such as dinghies, according to provisional Government data.
The shock figures have led to calls from anti-immigration activists for the Government to restart the Rwanda plan with one backing Tory leadership contender Liz Truss as the best person to fix the floodgates.
The figures revealed are almost double the amount recorded this time last year – 7,735.
Crossings continued on Monday for the 11th day in a row, with 330 people arriving in seven boats, Ministry of Defence (MoD) figures show.
More than 2,000 people arrived in the UK between July 8 and July 18, the longest consecutive run of crossings to date this year.
The highest daily total so far in 2022 was recorded on April 13 when 651 people made the crossing in 18 boats.
A record 1,185 people made the crossing on November 11 2021 – the highest figure recorded since the start of 2020.
A total of 28,526 people made the crossing in 2021, compared with 8,466 in 2020, 1,843 in 2019 and 299 in 2018, official Home Office figures show.
Steve Laws – an anti-immigration campaigner who exposed the Dover migrant crisis in 2020 isn’t surprised.
Speaking exclusively to Politicalite, the anti-immigration activist said: “We’ve now reached over 15,000 illegal immigrants arriving by boat this year with no sign of any deterrent in place to stop or even slow down the rapid influx of illegaks arriving.”
“Since the 11th of July, 1,804 have arrived by boat with more arriving since the early hours of this morning.”
“Last year every dinghy arriving would have roughly 25-30 illegals on board but this year each dinghy appears to be carrying on average 40-45 illegal immigrants. It seems the traffickers are so confident that they’ll complete the crossing they can take the risk of sending them over in greater numbers.”
“The majority of the dinghies that arrive are the long black dinghies but since the trafficker raids across Europe, they have started to use the more dangerous handmade dinghies and the large green dinghies that haven’t been seen often since last year. “
“Roughly 420 dinghies have completed the illegal crossing this year.”
“Despite the daily number of arrivals not reaching over a thousand in a day like in November 2022, there has been a steady flow of boats almost daily which is resulting in far more arrivals than that of last year which was just over 28,500 (28,526).”
“With the Rwanda deal on a standstill until the high court hearing in September, there is no effective deterrent in place and the Influx will continue. The Border Force is acting as a taxi service and picking 99% of the illegal crossings up from the French escorts in the centre of the Channel.”
“The Border Force is now using the ex wind farm vessels which are capable of carrying at least 150 illegal immigrants at a time if necessary.”
On the Tory leadership campaign, Laws said he would throw his support behind Liz Truss.
“I feel the options are all pretty much the same, give or take the odd policy. If I had to choose i would probably lean towards Lizz Truss just because she seems to be the toughest on illegal immigration.”
UKIP also slammed the figures and attacked the mainstream parties for their failure to tackle the issue.
Ben Walker, the parties national chairman said “Whilst any of the establishment parties remain in power, the boats will continue to land on our shores.”
“Even with an 80 seat majority, the Tories didn’t have the political will to make it stop. The only way to break the chain is to start voting UKIP once again. A party who truly have the UK’s interests at its core”. said Ben Walker, the National Party Chairman.
