AS a Brit, you probably understand just how vital pies are to life, from the works of Charles Dickens to modern-day Britain – pies are still one the tastiest fast-food options, and we’ve found the UK’s best pie company.
You can forget the southern Pret-A-Manger and the North-West’s Greggs, there’s a new pie king in town, and he’s from Yorkshire.
Yorkshire Handmade Pies uses the finest ingredients from across the Yorkshire Dales, so also to bring together pockets of extravagant pastry joy, and they’re like nothing else on the market.
James Sturdy – Founder, of Yorkshire Handmade Pies has been able to pass on his Great Grandfather’s talent for creating pies (pictured below) who first started to make pies in his village shop in 1930, and now the pies are available nationwide thanks to the internet and can be delivered the next day fresh just like Boris Johnson’s ‘over ready’ Brexit deal.
“It has inspired me to follow him to continue the methods of hand-crafted pie-making.” said James.
The pie makers believe in pies made properly. “This starts with how we source our ingredients.” We believe in sustainable delicious food and source many of our ingredients within just a few miles of our bakery.”
All of the meat in the pies comes from local suppliers and farms including our Heritage breed, grass fed beef raised in the Yorkshire Dales.
“Every detail matters to us, from the way we make our crisp, light pastry right through to ensuring every pie is deep filled to give you the best pie eating experience.” added James.
Politicalite was given the privilege of trying a selection of the pies including the Yorkshire Steak and Black Pudding, Yorkshire Steak and Hambleton Ale and Braised Chicken and Smoked Bacon, Leek and Tarragon.
BRITAIN’S BEST PIES
Each pie came out of the oven with a quintessentially homely aroma, and if you cook to the packet instructions, the pies look Instagram-ready golden brown.
They tasted scrumptious, and when the fork hit the pie it was a truly magical experience followed by a perfect splash of British flavour on the tastebuds.
The ingredients really are as the company describes them, there have no corners cut, which makes these products stand out from brands such as Pukka and Greggs, this is the next level.
They’re great for tea, (or Dinner if you’re from down South *eyeroll* and also would look showstopping at any family party or event such as a Christening, Family Do or Milestone Birthday bash.
They’ve even been recognised by winning multiple top food gongs efforts at the prestigious British Pie Awards in 2020.
