Paypal has reportedly said that it will stop taking payments for Tommy Robinson. It is understood that the reason they have given is that Tommy has ‘violated the terms and conditions’.
They refused to confirm or deny reports saying they do not comment on individual customers but added;
“We do not take decisions like these lightly, and we work hard to be rigorous and fair-minded when reviewing PayPal accounts.
“Striking the necessary balance between upholding free expression and open dialogue and protecting principles of tolerance, diversity and respect for all people is a challenge that many companies are grappling with today.”
This is not the first time that PayPal has been part of attempting to defund alternative voices or platforms. It was one of the big tech companies that tried, unsuccessfully to get Gab shut down by stopping taking payments for it and also last month banned InfoWars. It seems that we are witnessing a coordinated attempt to completely curtail free speech from big tech firms like PayPal and you cant help but feel this assault has only just begun.
