THOUSANDS of oppressed Muslim women are trapped in forced marriages across Britain.
The Guardian reported in May 2018 that More than 3,500 reports of forced marriage were made to police over a three-year period.
Data revealed 3,546 reports between 2014 and 2016.
Experts warn that the figures, collected by the Iranian and Kurdish Women’s Rights Organisation under the Freedom of Information Act, “are just the tip of the iceberg.”
One campaigner said: “Treated as slaves and subjected to threats and violence, victims endure the added burden of their own families pressurising them to stay in these marriages to avoid bringing them shame.”
One man, was forced to marry a woman to hide his sexuality.
The findings are the latest in a string of human rights abuses in the name of religion.
