Labour Leave meanwhile criticised Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell for saying that in any Brexit Referendum that it proposes no deal would not be on the ballot paper. The Brexit-supporting organisation accused Mr McDonnell of ‘basically waving goodbye to 4-5 million Labour voters’ referring to the sizeable contingent that has consistently backed Brexit since the 2016 Referendum.
Nigel Farage has urged the Conservatives to give the Brexit Party a ‘free-run’ in Labour seats to target Labour Remainers. Top of the target list would be Wansbeck, currently held by Labour chairman Ian Lavery, and West Bromwich East, that of Deputy Leader Tom Watson and Peterborough where Labour narrowly pipped Mike Greene to the post in the recent by-election.
