MANCHESTER ATTACK: Man Arrested On Suspicion of ‘Terror Offences’ After KNIFE rampage in City Centre – LATEST UPDATES

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of terror offences after stabbing multiple people in a rampage in Manchester City Centre.

Multiple people were injured Friday after a stabbing incident in Manchester City Centre and Counter Terror Police are leading the investigation.

The shocking attack took place at the Manchester Arndale Shopping centre – the shopping centre was evacuated.

Police said the attacker “started lunging and attacking people”.

GMP Assistant Chief Constable Russ Jackson suggested that up to five people were injured in the “random” and “brutal” attack.

“The man attacked people around him,” he said.

“Although the injuries are nasty, we are told that, thankfully, none are life-threatening.”

“He was armed with a large knife and, as he entered Exchange Court, began lunging, attacking people with the knife.

“Two unarmed police community support officers were in Exchange Court and attempted to confront the attacker.

“He then chased them with the knife as they were calling for urgent assistance.”

Within five minutes armed officers detained the suspect on Market Street outside the centre, he added.

This picture below reveals that one of the stabbings occurred inside the Arndale. The attacker was apprehended outside. So could have started his attack inside the centre before trying to escape.

Brave Police were seen running to the scene of one of the stabbings inside the arndale centre – fire alarms were later sounded and the whole complex was evacuated.

One man in his 40s was later tasered and dragged from the floor by brave coppers. See the shock video below.

Greater Manchester Police said: “A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of serious assault after several people were stabbed at the Arndale shopping centre in Manchester”

Videos on social media show large numbers of officers attending the Exchange Square side of the shopping centre reported the Manchester Evening News. 

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he was “shocked by the incident in Manchester” and said his “thoughts are with the injured and all those affected.” He thanked the “excellent emergency services who responded and who are now investigating what happened.” More follows.

Senior police sources said “several” people had been stabbed, the Manchester Evening News reported.

It is not known whether there are any fatalities.

Emergency services initially said four people have been injured – this was later updated to three before the number was confirmed again at four. 

Politicalite was live at the scene, onlookers were in a state of shock.

The centre was evacuated after the attack at about 11:15 BST, during which police said a man with a large knife.
