Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, the immigrant owner of the Kwik-E-Mart shop in The Simpsons, is to be axed due to politically correct pressure over ‘racial stereotyping’.
He was the subject of a documentary last year entitled The Problem With Apu. Somewhat implausibly, Hari Kondabolu, the man behind the documentary complained: “of course he’s funny, but that doesn’t mean this representation is accurate or right or righteous.” Is Mr Burns then expected to be an accurate representation of every nuclear power plant owner or Chief Wiggum every American police chief?
One of the big problems the PC brigade has is that fail to appreciate context and irony and assume everything is literally represented and therefore has to be ‘right and righteous’.
So, it is the end for Apu. Producer Adi Shankar revealed that he’s verified from ‘multiple sources’ the removal of Apu from the show. He said: ‘”They’re going to drop the Apu character altogether. They aren’t going to make a big deal out of it, or anything like that, but they’ll drop him altogether just to avoid the controversy.”
Sadly, it looks like Politically Correct madness has claimed another victim…..
