FACEBOOK is destroying democracy and has sided with the powerful, to save face – now the most politically engaged users are debating abandoning the worlds biggest social media firm in their droves.
Media Barons, MPs and Governments have been slamming Facebook for months and as the network engaged users politically and took away the power of the elites, Facebook has now turned off its key users – everyday people like me and you by deleting the man who represents millions of disenfranchised people across the UK.
Earlier this week the firm deleted the most popular political page in Britain – the page of right-wing activist Tommy Robinson.
Love him or loathe him, he was speaking for millions of disenfranchised people across the land, no newspaper or politician in the land could suppress his message, now Facebook has.
Tommy had MORE likes than Theresa May, Jeremy Corbyn or The Conservative and Labour pages… but why? It’s simple Tommy connected with the masses in a way the elitist politicians could only dream of.
Users in Britain have become politically engaged – they have woken up to the fact that those who claim to represent them don’t and don’t really care for their interests at all.
The majority voted to Leave the EU, they rejected political correctness, they rejected mass immigration, they rejected globalisation, they rejected the status-quo for populism and yet the Government and the opposition are trying to halt the democratic will of the British people.
It’s not just here in Britain, it’s happening across the world – take America – Trump has engaged the people like never before, thanks in part to social media, yet the people who control our biggest means of communication are now trying to suppress the very people who use their apps.
With Facebook around the elites have no real way to suppress the opinions and the living reality of those whose votes they rely on, but isn’t that what democracy is all about.. representing people and the masses being able to tell those in power what they think?
The ban on Tommy isn’t just an attack on the man himself, its an attack on every one of us who believes in freedom of speech and a right to have our political views represented, if they take away his means of communication, will they soon take away yours?
It’s likely, just this week I found myself deleted of the platform – for hours I had no way to update to my more than 40,000 Facebook followers, this is a dangerous time and if we fail to find new ways of communication like Facebook, we will soon find ourselves voiceless.
Facebook has become a victim of its own success, no longer does Facebook give its users the power, it is giving i to the elites, and maybe, just maybe it’s time we all ditched it.
Choose Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and hope that someone, somewhere cares
Choose looking up old flames, wishing you’d done it all differently
And choose watching history repeat itself
Choose your future
Choose reality TV, slut shaming, revenge porn
Choose a zero hour contract, a two hour journey to work
And choose the same for your kids, only worse, and smother the pain with an unknown dose of an unknown drug made in somebody’s kitchen
And then… take a deep breath
You’re an addict, so be addicted
Just be addicted to something else
Choose the ones you love
Choose your future
