COMMENT: After Deadly Oil Tanker Attack, Britain MUST Strike Back at Iran

TWENTY Years ago U.S. President George W. Bush announced that the West would deal with the “axis of evil” – states that allegedly sponsored terrorism and sought weapons of mass destruction – yet still, in 2021 – one of those countries on the Axis list is still terrorising the world.

This was an enemy list of states that America and its western Allies united against after the deadly attacks on New York and Washington on 9/11.

The 2000s campaign in the middle-east did not achieve its goals – and destabilised the region, in turn helping extremist groups like AlQaeda, The Taliban and ISIS gain power and inadvertently causing a migrant crisis, but we cannot let the past mistakes in the Middle East stop us from taking action against states when they directly attack us.

No one is calling for an all-out war, but Britain, America and the Western Allies must hold firm and strike back against the terrorist regime that is Iran – just as British Prime Minister and Iron Lady Margaret Thatcher did in the early 1980s.

RUH DONE IT: How Iran Green-Lit Deadly Suicide Bombings in the 1980s

AFTER Iranian President Ayatollah Ruhollah al-Khomeini came to power in Iran in 1979 he issued a fatwa to ‘permit’ suicide bombings in combat, backed by then Syrian dictator Hafez al-Assad – the weapon of war that led to 9/11 and the London and Manchester Terror Attacks.

Khomeini was one of the first world leaders to issue a fatwa to permit suicide bombings since Japan’s Kamikazzi bombers in the Second World War, and Iraqi Shiite Muslims known as “Hezbollah” were the first to carry out a suicide bombing against an Iraqi embassy in Beirut in 1981.

Along with Iran, the former Syrian President, Hafez Al Assad Khomeini pursued an ideal world that was dominated by Islam, and said in speeches: “Every part of the body of a non-Muslim individual is impure, even the hair on his hand and his body hair, his nails, and all the secretions of his body.”

FATHER OF DEATH: Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini

“One must avoid giving the Koran to an infidel; it is even recommended that it be forcibly taken away from him if he already has it in his hands.”

On Suicide bombing, the Hardline Islamist Leader said: “Dying does not mean nothingness: it is life.”

Following the Fatwa, a member of Hezbollah drove a white Mercedes packed with 220 pounds of high explosives into the Iraqi Embassy in Beirut. This was the first ‘Suicide Bombing’ of its kind in post-WW2 modern history.

The blast killed 61 people, including Ambassador Abdul Razak Lafta, and ushered in the era of warfare.

Among the deadliest early suicide attacks was on April 18, 1983, when the bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Beirut occurred and killed 63 people, 17 of them Americans.

Months later a suicide bomber rammed a truck carrying 2,000 pounds of explosives into the U.S. Marine barracks at Beirut’s airport, killing 241 American servicemen.

Syrian and Iranian backed Hezbollah got away with the birth of Suicide Bombings and U.S. President Ronald Reagan did not retaliate, he withdrew U.S. Forces and gave Assad a clear victory in the region.

The Iranian Syrian backed ‘suicide fatwa’ was later adopted by Al-Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden who was responsible for the 9/11 Attacks on the United States in 2001 that set the western world on a collision course in the Middle East.

IRAN was “highly likely” to be behind an oil tanker terror attack that left one British man dead in the Gulf, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has said.

He described it as an “unlawful and callous attack” on the ship in the Middle East, that killed a British man and the Government believes that the drone attack on the oil tanker was “deliberate, targeted, and a clear violation of international law by Iran”.

Iran denied responsibility but Israeli prime minister, Naftali Bennett also added blame and the UK has sided with Israel in the allegations.

“The UK condemns the unlawful and callous attack committed on a merchant vessel off the coast of Oman, which killed a British and a Romanian national,” said the foreign secretary.

“Our thoughts are with the friends and family of those killed in the incident.”

“We believe this attack was deliberate, targeted, and a clear violation of international law by Iran.”

“UK assessments have concluded that it is highly likely that Iran attacked the MV Mercer Street in international waters off Oman on 29 July using one or more unmanned aerial vehicles.”

“Iran must end such attacks, and vessels must be allowed to navigate freely in accordance with international law. The UK is working with our international partners on a concerted response to this unacceptable attack.”

Labour’s shadow foreign secretary, Lisa Nandy has also urged the Prime Minister to “make it clear” to Iran that the killing of a British national onboard the Mercer Street vessel would “carry costs”.

“This reckless Iranian attack on a merchant vessel in international waters is a flagrant breach of international law,” she said.

“It is tragic that this has led to the death of two sailors, including one Briton. We send our deepest condolences to their families.”

“The prime minister must make it clear to the incoming Iranian president that lawless actions will carry costs. This is the moment where Britain must show we are resolute in our determination to end this pattern of behaviour.”

“The breakdown of a clear strategy to deal with Iran has not served the UK or our allies well in recent years. The foreign secretary must now make it a priority to pursue coordinated international efforts to tackle these actions by the Iranian government.”
