ONE of the things you notice about the crimewave hitting London is that it is frequently the most vulnerable, women and children that are hit the hardest. So it was yesterday in Islington.
A women in her 20s was stabbed in her chest on Caledonian Road at approximately 10:15. Police are believed to have apprehended a man and he has been charged with attempted murder according to reports.
This leads me to my second observation about the kind of crimewave that Mayor Khan is currently failing miserably to tackle. Often the most brutal of crimes are committed in broad daylight which means criminals have lost all inhibitors and that London’s populace is unfortunately in a position where it cannot really safe or secure at any time.
It really is like the Wild West where violence constantly simmers under the surface and it can burst out at literally any time. Since Khan took office in May 2016 crime has sky-rocketed. Between that period and July of this year, the Mets own statistics show a 9.2% increase.
Is it really a surprise that a resident in North West London said “everyone feels scared”? Wouldn’t you? Despite Khan’s silk-covered words and wothless assurances Londoners still dont see any more police on the streets, something they all cry out for, nor feel any safer. The first duty of any government is to protect the lives and well-being of those under its care and judged against this measure Mr Khan is a total failure and totally unfit to hold office. It is a tragedy for Londoners that they still have two years of this to endure until they can remove him at the ballot box – if he had a shred of human decency left in him he would resign now and spare them at least that.
