NAZ Shah, the Labour MP who told abused girls to ‘Shit their mouths’ and has been in a row over anti-Semitism has been made Labour’s Shadow Equalities minister.
The Tories maybe in massive trouble over Brexit but more and more Labour is becoming the political equivalent of a joke which no-one gets the punchline of with every passing day.
In 2014, Naz Shah MP said that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict would be ‘solved’ if Israel was ‘relocated’ to the US, yesterday she found herself appointed to the Equalities brief for Labour.
Two years later in 2016, Ms Shah lost the Labour whip and was suspended from the Party for three months. She also infamously told abuse victims to keep ‘shut their mouths’.
The appointment follows criticism of Labour’s new code of conduct aimed at tackling endemic anti-Semitism which has been exposed as existing at all levels of the Party.
Astonishingly, the 16-page document says that Israel’s description of itself as a Jewish state is “problematic” for its supporters. The document refuses to accept the Internatioal Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of anti-semitism in a move which has been roundly criticised in a joint statement by the Board Of Deputies President and Chair of the Jewish Leadership Council:
“(Labour’s) actions only further dilute the definition and erode the existing lack of confidence amoung British Jews have in their sincerity to tackle anti-Semitism within the Labour movement.”
The appointment of Ms Shah can only further erode that confidence and act as a testimony of a Party that is remarkably quick to accuse its political opponents such as UKIP of ‘racism’.
