LEADING THE CHARGE: Le Pen Edges Out In Front Of Macron In French Euro Poll

Marine Le Pen and her Rassemblement national (RN) Party have edged out in front of President Emmanuel Macron’s République en Marche Party.

Le Pen, who is leading the charge for Euroscepticism in France, has now seen her Party take a narrow lead in two different polls. In an OpinionWay poll for Les Echos newspaper and Radio Classique, Rassemblement national were on 24% with Macron’s en Marche on 22%.

Meanwhile, Ipsos put RN ahead by the narrowest of margins by 22-21.5% last week. Le Pen is eager to turn the vote into a referendum on President Macron’s unpopular domestic agenda.

A Eurosceptic victory in France coupled with the growing popularity of the populist AfD in Germany could significantly alter the balance of power in Europe as both nations are at the core of driving EU policy. This is especially true if it is matched by gains elsewhere for Matteo Salvini’s Lega Party in Italy and his Eurosceptic Europe of Nations And Freedom group.
