We all know that Treason May takes a begging bowl and a cap in her hand every time she goes to Brussels. Quite often she will talk tough at home and then during this or that summit she will again become the humble servant desperate to please her EU masters.
So, it shouldn’t really surprise us that she humbly begged EU President Jean Claude Juncker not to ‘kill off’ her ailing Chequers plan.
Prior to his annual State Of The Union address Mrs May messaged Juncker asking for “space to breath”. In return, the head Eurocrat promised he would not “kill off Chequers”.
However, her supplicant attitude appears to not yield entirely positive results. Michel Barnier has voiced “strong opposition” to several aspects of Chequers and Donald Tusk continues to, embarrassingly for Mrs May, reveal just how weak the negotiating stance put forward by the UK Government is, it is no wonder that we are consistently walked all over when it comes to this process and it gives the lie to claims by Mrs May that she is negotiating the best deal for Britain.
