BORIS Johnson MUST provide our hardworking grafters in the building trade real cash help so they can lockdown – or the UK could face a wipeout of the workforce.
Brit tradesmen, joiners, plumbers, electricians and builders are being forced to work as most are self-employed. They can’t survive on £94 a week sick pay, its time to give them real cash help.
The Government bangs on about Health and Safety, yet isn’t protecting tradesmen amid the pandemic – these lads are the BACKBONE of Britain.
If they have accidents on site – they could clog up the NHS – when our healthcare system is needed more than ever. It’s also not sensible to have hardworking grafters congregating on sites and in canteens potentially spreading disease.
One floor-screeder told Politicalite: “I’m being forced to work still, the gaffer won’t shut down because there’s no Government help like other businesses.. we’ve got to work to feed our kids and pay the bills”
One worker took to Twitter to slam the Prime Minsiter and said: ” am self employed and the building sites ain’t shutting, I need the money to pay Bill’s, I dont want to go..but I have to, until someone tells us otherwise”
Another said: “Sill not a mention about the millions of blokes working on building sites, with others from all over the place. Who then have to go back home to there isolating families? Crazy.”
Another wrote: “Construction sites are open as usual across the UK, this photo was taken twenty minutes ago on a site at Waterloo. Contractors are refusing to shut sites until the Gov force them so they dont fall foul of any contractual clauses. ”
London Assembly minister Caroline Russel said: “This is not social distancing. The government must tell construction sites to close down unless they are building infrastructure to fight the pandemic. Another reason to provide better for self employed people too.”
Boris needs to protect Britain’s grafters… and their families.
