After another day of vapid scaremongering by Number 10 about a Clean Brexit, reports are emerging tonight suggesting that the Prime Minister has ruled out ‘No deal’ in private but is not yet ready to publicly. She wants to continue to use the prospect as leverage with the EU and her own MPs.
One Cabinet source is quoted as saying: “The PM has made it quite clear that she is not going to go for no deal.”
Yesterday, Education Secretary Damian Hinds told Sky News: “I can’t envisage a scenario that no deal becomes government policy.”
Remoaning Cabinet Ministers, such as Amber Rudd have been dropping heavy-hints that they maybe prepared to resign to oppose any government move to implement a WTO exit.
However, there has never been any realistic chance that the government would seek a Clean Brexit. Chancellor Philip Hammond was caught privately reassuring business leaders that there was absolutely no prospect of no deal because it would be stopped.
