Schengen Visa – Europe Short Stay Visa Types and Application

The Schengen Visa is your permission letter to any country in the Schengen area. This visa is issued by the authorities of a Schengen state to its citizens to allow them to travel to any other Schengen country for a period of 3 months within the time of 6 months.

Types of Schengen Visas offered?

Uniform Schengen Visas (USV)

With this type of visa, the visa holder is allowed to stay in the Schengen country he holds the visa for 3 months within the time of six months. Uniform Schengen visa is further divided into 3 types:

  • Single-entry visa. The visa holder is allowed to make an entry to the country only one time and can stay until the visa expires. In case the person decides to leave the country before expiry then he would not be allowed to reenter as the visa will be considered as expired upon leaving the country. This visa is usually to be obtained by utilizing Europe short stay lawyers
  • Double-entry visa. As the name indicates, this type of visa holder can enter the country two times within the period of their visa validity. In case you leave the country after entering it two times already then you will not be allowed to enter again even though your visa duration has not ended, as the visa will automatically be considered expired once you leave the country for the second time

LTV visa is usually considered as the visa for exceptional cases of Uniform Visa and is issued to people who have some scenario of Humanitarian reasons or international obligations.

  • Completing evidence documents.
  • Attend the meeting with visa officials.

How long can I stay with a Schengen Visa?

Any person with a Schengen visa can stay in any country in the Schengen area for 3 months with a duration of 6 months. Sometimes you are given a visa for the time period you requested in your visa application and sometimes you are allowed to visit for a longer or shorter time period depending on what authorities deem fit. The visa authorities not only decide the period of your visa but also mention the earliest date that you will be allowed to travel on and the date till when you will be allowed to stay. If you wish to stay in a Schengen country for more than 3 months, you might need to apply for European National Visas (D- Visas). People under the following categories are eligible for D-visa 

  •  A student studying under the program that has a Schengen visa granted as its part.
  • A student who wishes to start full-time studies in Europe.
  • Higher education institute teachers or researchers at European establishment
  • Professional travel with the purpose to be able to share the expertise.
