LEFTIE Comic Simon Pegg has told Brits concerned about the far-left Marxist ‘Black Lives Matter’ group to ‘shut the f*ck up’.
In the interview, in which he was discussing his latest film Lost Transmissions, he confirmed he was following the BLM protests in light of the death of George Floyd in the United States. He also confirmed that he was working with the 56 Black Men group.to allow for more diversity in the movie industry. To critics of the BLM movement, he told them to ‘shut the fuck up because it’s time’.
Justifying his reasoning, he noted that ‘the film industry would be such a healthier, more interesting place if there were more voices, different stories, different experiences. It’s so dominated by one particular voice and colour of face, it just perpetuates a bland mono-voiced cultural landscape’. In that, he also noted that Lost Transmissions had been one of the few films that he’d worked on which had been directed by a woman, in this case Katharine O’Brien.
There was a huge backlash against Pegg’s comments online. Edwin Boyette, the Vice Chair of Communications for the Hawaii Republican Party, called Pegg ‘another Hollyweirdo lecturing people’. A group called the Alan Grey Project slammed Pegg for endorsing a ‘communist organisation’. One user asked whether he endorsed their ‘antisemitism’, and another called Pegg a ‘first class prick’.
Pegg, most famous for the cult TV show Spaced and the Three Cornetto film trilogy, has dabbled in politics previously, co-signing a letter earlier this year that argued that the rich should have higher taxation levied upon them so that it could fix the ‘broken economy’.
