LONDON Mayor Sadiq Khan has remained silent as the Emir of Qatar visits Britain.
Following his mass tantrum over the democratically elected leader of the United States visiting the country last week, Muslim Sadiq hasn’t had a word to say about the homophobic, human rights abusing Emir’s visit to London.
On Trump’s upcoming visit, he said: “If someone has views that I think can be changed, I am ready to play my role,” he told CNN.
“If you somehow think it is not possible to be a Muslim and a proud westerner, I am happy to disabuse you of that idea, whether you are a reporter for CNN or Donald Trump.”
Mr Khan also approved a giant ‘Trump Blimp’ and Mr Khan defended the decision, saying it was not for him to be a censor or to decide what is in good or bad taste.
Qatar is a country that has a dismal human rights record, has 26,000+ documented human rights violations, harbours and finances terrorists, discriminates against women and has laws that still make homosexuality illegal.
According to Amnesty International, Qatari authorities uphold restrictions on the rights to freedom of expression and association and peaceful assembly do not conform with international law and standards.
The authorities do not permit the existence of independent political parties, and workers’ associations were only permitted for Qatari citizens if they met strict criteria. Laws criminalizing expression deemed offensive to the Emir were maintained.
This is surely a cause for outrage and mass protests, Mr Khan.
Will we be seeing a blimp of the Qatari Emir?
We won’t be holding our breath.
We have contacted the London Mayor’s Office for comment.
