MORE than 4,371 council seats are being contested with Labour and the Conservatives losing control of key councils across England with the Tories sweeping up votes from a collapsed UKIP vote.

Labour failed to take several key target seats such Wandsworth in London but surprised many after becoming the LARGEST party in Trafford taking control from the Conservatives.

The Tories gained many votes after a total collapse of the UKIP vote across the country with the Tories winning big in Basildon and Peterborough.
Labour lost control of key councils in the Midlands in councils such as Nuneaton, Bedworth and Derby.
The Lib Dems regained control of Richmond, in London, from the Tories and gained seats elsewhere.
