NORTH KOREA has fired a ballistic missile over Japan it emerged early this morning. The missile fell into waters of the Japans eastern coast.
Japanese Government officials have warned its citizens to take cover.
South Korean military officials said that the missile tracked 1,678 miles and was fired from a location close to Pyongyang just before 6 am local time.
The Japanese patriot missile system was not activated calling into question the responsiveness of the Japanese Armed Forces.
It is the first time since 1998 that North Korea has fired a missile over Japan.
Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said his country’s authorities would “gather information and analyze” the situation.
The Pentagon said missile posed no threat to the United States or its overseas territories.
