IT’S OKAY to not be okay. writes Politicalite’s newest talented contributor, Ashlea, also known for Th Great Unsaid (TGU), Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 45 and yet – here in 2019 – men don’t speak out due to fear of being judged; judged for feeling, for not being ‘man’ enough.
This is a terribly sad state of affairs when society dictates who can feel a certain way, as if men can’t overthink, go through troubling times; that their minds can’t process; a time in which men aren’t given the right advice on coping mechanisms to deal with their hurt.
Mental illness doesn’t discriminate. It doesn’t care whether you’re old or young, male or female, black or white, gay or straight. It can affect anyone of us, so each person who has the misfortune of suffering with MH should be able to speak out without fear.
Remember this: whatever you’re feeling, whatever you’re thinking, someone has felt and thought IT before.
Speak to anyone; your doctor, a friend, or a complete stranger, and remember that you do matter and you are loved.
