BORIS Johnson is going down fighting and has stripped rebel MP Tobias Ellwood of the party whip after he voted against the Government in a confidence vote last night.
The chairman of the defence select committee has been a serial critic of Boris Johnson during his time in the party.
The MP said in a statement: “Following my meeting yesterday with the president of Moldova I was unable to secure return travel due to unprecedented disruption both here and in the UK.”
“ Iam very sorry to lose the whip but will now continue my meetings in Ukraine promoting the Prime Minister’s efforts here and specifically seeking to secure the reopening of Odesa port – so vital grain exports can recommence.”
MPs voted 349 to 238, majority 111, to support the motion stating that the Commons has confidence in the Government.
Mr Johnson used his opening speech to run through what he perceived to be his greatest hits in office as he batted away calls for him to resign immediately rather than wait until September 5.
