JACOB Rees-Mogg has opened both barrels on Theresa May in an explosive piece for The Telegraph.
He warned that Mrs May was setting up a ‘show trial’ to prevent the former Foreign Secretary becoming Conservative Party leader and that she was principally motivated by “envy” of the “potential” Mr Johnson has.
Furthermore, Rees-Mogg implied that Mrs May’s actions were only helping Labour: “When Margaret Thatcher was Leader, she and Michael Heseltine were hardly soulmates but she would not have allowed personal rivalry to take the heat off the Labour Party.
“Nor would she have countenanced any attempt to have a show trial. Attacking Boris merely helps the Opposition. It is time for good sense to assert itself, free speech to be encouraged and as the summer rain falls for hot-headed action to be cooled down.
He continued, questioning the motives behind the witch hunt launched against Boris by Tory Chair, Brandon Lewis, and backed publicly by May: “Why would senior Conservatives want to attack so popular a figure for saying something that had been said before which they had not objected to?
“Could it be that there is a nervousness that a once and probably future leadership contender is becoming too popular and needs to be stopped”
It is expected that as a minimum Bo-Jo will be expected to attend a ‘diversity course’. However, there has been a mass outpouring of support for his comments in which he compared women who wear the Burka and Niqab to “letterboxes” and “bank robbers”. Papers such as the Daily Mail and Telegraph have reported receiving a deluge of letters from readers with the majority supporting the stand made by Boris.
Once again Treason May seems to have put herself on the wrong side of the grassroots of her own Party who she treats with total contempt.
