UKIP Peterborough has demanded the immediate resignation of disgraced Labour MP for Peterborough, Fiona Onasanya who was found guilty tonight of perverting the course of justice.
Following today’s guilty verdict, we call on @FionaOnasanyaMP to immediately resign as #Peterborough MP so we can elect an honest, hardworking #Brexiteer in her place.
We in Peterborough #UKIP will be fighting hard to win the seat, where 61% of voters voted for #Brexit in 2016.

Ms Onasanya denied she was driving her car when it was caught doing 41mph in a 30mph zone in Thorney, Cambridgeshire, in July 2017. When served with a Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) she advised authorities that former lodger Aleks Antipow was driving the car, but he was subsequently found to have been in Russia at the time visiting family.
She will be sentanced at a later date. A custodial sentence of over 12 months, even if it suspended, will result in an immediate by-election. If the sentence is under 12 months then a petition will open up which if signed by 10% of constituents will also trigger a by-election.
However, pressure was mounting from inside the Labour Party for Onasanya to step-down. She was suspended from the Party, lost the Labour whip and a spokesman for the Party said that it is “disappointed” by her conduct and she should now resign.
