Speaking last night about the “unprecedented” Yellow Vest protests in France and across Europe, Gerard Batten MEP, the leader of UKIP, took aim at the Euro Elites and “bankers President” Emmanuel Macron and defended the right of the Yellow Vests to peacefully protest.
Batten said that the protesters are protesting because of the lack of “democratic accountability, because of an “oppressive” tax regime, because their “living standards are being driven down” and because “mass uncontrolled immigration is changing European nations into something unwanted and unrecognised by their native inhabitants.”
The political elite is “out of touch with its own citizens” and Macron is a prime example of this aloofness and he is a “figurehead” for the European Union.
He compared the EU to oppressive regimes of days gone by and concluded by warning Eurocrats “no amount of police brutality can prevent it being swept away.”
Mr Battens comments follow another weekend where protesters have been seriously injured in violent clashes with police in France. One protester in Paris lost their hand.
