RON DeSantis has been accused of a questionable position on Russia after quoting John McCain’s doctrine on Russia.
Mr DeSantis, 44 – a Republican who is running for President, and seen as Donald Trump’s main rival in the GOP primaries was appearing on Piers Morgan Uncensored and was questioned on Russia and Putin.
He said: “I think he’s got grand ambitions.”
“I think he’s hostile to the US, but… he’s basically a gas station with a bunch of nuclear weapons”
John McCain coined that description of Russia — “gas station masquerading as a country.”
DeSantis also said he believes Mr Trump should’ve given up power like George Washington after election loss and January 6.
The Florida Governor also faced a backlash from GOP supporters after refusing to block a Democratic political witch-hunt against Donald Trump – whom he was once a supporter.
