BONFIRE ON THE HILL: US Website Thought Guy Fawkes Fireworks Were For Joe Biden

AMERICAN Political Website The Hill was mocked by British Twitter after the outlet mistook fireworks celebrating Guy Fawkes for celebrations related to President-Elect Joe Biden in a bizarre article on Saturday night after the 77-year-old Democrat was predicted to win the US election.

Journalist Brooke Seipel wrote online: “In countries across the globe, people reported fireworks and cheering after President-elect Joe Biden was named the winner of the 2020 election on Saturday.”

Brits mark the 5th November and the days after each year to celebrate Guy Fawkes – the Terrorist who was foiled trying to blow up Parliament in the Gunpowder Plot.

Fireworks are let off by households and Bonfires are lit across the United Kingdom on the 5th November and the nights after, however, The Hill confused the celebrations as fireworks let off for Joe Biden.

The report was false and the Hill has deleted a tweet related to the article, but a video and article with the false claims are still online.

Former Labour MP for Vauxhall Kate Hoey asked where was the Twitter fact check on The Hill’s article.

One user wrote: “I can’t believe the lying of you guys at ABC and The Hill. We do this every year in the UK and it’s called Bonfire Night or Guy Fawkes night…it’s a centuries old tradition. Any Americans reading this…don’t believe The Hill. Do not believe what they’re saying here.”

Katherine wrote: “No, it’s bonfire night (well technically it was Thursday but the fireworks have been going all week). However it did make the celebratory feeling even better with fireworks going off, even if it was a happy coincidence. x”

“Guys… it was bonfire night this week… we have fireworks going off every night for the week prior and the week after. Calm down. #FakeNews @Twitter” said another.

The Hill quickly added a paragraph claiming that fireworks were leftover from Bonfire Night.

“Locals in the United Kingdom, where many had leftover fireworks from Guy Fawkes Night this week, reported fireworks going off in London.”  but we all know that their article is total fake news.
